![]() It’s not a bad remake, a really good one! Just nowhere near the level of creativity as the resident evil remake. Dead space was a faithful adaption at the cost of branching out risky ideas. Resident evil definitely shocked me cus of how they handled the remake. If Dead Space isn't trying to spook you or kill you, it's taunting you with tense silence or menacing dialogue. Scary shit happens to you and everyone else in that game from the beginning to the very end. Dead Space fully commits to its horror themes and, while the player is expected to adapt, there is never any reprieve from that. Still, if we're comparing the two, I think Dead Space wins hands down. They start out that way, but you necessarily adapt to it because both games have so much action. ![]() Overall, I wouldn't really describe either of these games as scary. The music fades away when enemies aren't incoming, which keeps it feeling special and also allows the audio of the environment to just really pull me in. I find the Remake is much better on that front. It was just grating, which did put me on edge for jump scares, but it felt like it was more from sensory overload than anything else. Not because it was actually scary, it just felt like the horror orchestra would never shut the hell up, lol. Honestly, I found the original Dead Space a little unbearable. There is a certain point where the game just kinda settles down on spooky and, at most, feels like an action thriller. Resident Evil 4 presents itself as a survival horror at first, but slowly reveals itself to be a cheesy action horror movie with the occasional jump scare. It's a thrill ride with a lot of atmosphere and intense music for build-up and then jump scares for tension release. I think the best description I've heard to describe the horror of Dead Space can be summed up in two words: haunted house.
